3 Steps To Transforming An Ordinary General Dentistry Practice Into A High-Performance, High-Income Business

Young dentists recently graduating from dental schools have formidable hurdles to overcome to realize their dreams which ultimately centers around creating a dental practice that is professionally fulfilling and economically productive enough to be able to pay down debt and build wealth.

While you’ve already invested time and money to get to become a dentist, the profession rewards those that choose to go further with specialized education.

One of your first decisions to make is regarding your current skillset.

Is your current educational and skill level effective enough to provide the necessary care your patients need?

Do you need to go to school to get a specialty degree in periodontics, oral surgery, or endodontics?

Additional schooling adds more time and cost to the equation but the return and impact on your career can be significant.

Should you choose to invest in additional education, the time to pursue it is NOW. Delaying or procrastinating this decision usually results in wasting precious time or not doing it at all.

The dental profession rewards the specialist much better than the general practitioner, even when doing the same procedure.

If general dentistry is what you will be doing, what options are available to maximize your success doing that?

The good news is that there are many things that you can do.

Step 1): Decide which procedures you perform fall the most into your comfort zone and correlate to what you see as demands and needs that patients present within your practice.

If your patients are interested in cosmetics, study and learn as much as you can about cosmetic dentistry. Become an expert in that area and market and advertise your skills to build your practice. Other options include Invisalign orthodontics, endodontics or what I ended up choosing, implant dental surgery and restoration.

Step 2): After you have gotten a sense of what needs are relevant to your practice, evaluate what your personal skill set would offer to meet that demand and what ignites your passion in dentistry.

If you can match the two, you will have succeeded in elevating your job into a profession you love. In my case, this was the art of placing and restoring dental implants.

Step 3): Invest in the best educational classes that allow you to transfer your classroom knowledge to your practice.

There is a myriad of classes available to you that are conducted by very qualified practitioners, but often the subject matter is not on the level you can relate to in your practice. They’re not the type of instruction that can teach you something more that you can do or take home to your offices,

That’s one reason I developed that program at Elite Implant Institute. The hallmark of the program is to create an avenue for the general dentist to “launch” an implant skill in your office.

This is accomplished by instituting many of the philosophies enacted by the former Misch Implant Institute which focused heavily on guided, supervised hands-on surgeries that allow the doctor to perform and actually learn how to do the procedure.

This is followed by a sequence of sessions which add and build on to that skill.

Another missing link provided by the Institute is to train and prepare the assisting staff. This is an overlooked component that is essential to success in this field.

If you’d like to elevate your educational and professional development in your career, enroll into the Elite Implant Institute Mini Residency program. It will allow you to “launch” your new career.
